On this month’s cover: from the
granite terroirs of Corsica's Ajaccio
hillsides comes the Granit Blanc 2018
(left) from reference-point
producer Domaine de Vaccelli: a
complex, textural and intense vermentinu
beautifully balanced by vibrant freshness and
a lengthy mineral-driven finish; on the right
is the exquisite, ethereal, and very elusive Trousseau
2019 from New California
standard-bearers Arnot-Roberts.

A new month has
rolled around, bringing with it some
exciting new shipments. We’d love
nothing more than to share our freshly
landed gems with you!
With the arrival of some
much-anticipated 2018 Burgundies and the
return of some beloved favourites, May
is slated to be a very pleasurable
drinking month indeed.
The New
California movement has brought some
much-needed balance and restraint to
the region’s wines, and Arnot-Roberts’
wines are perfect exemplars of this
ethos. The dynamic duo behind this
winery, Duncan Arnot Meyers and Nathan
Lee Roberts (pictured right),
selectively sources pristine
single-vineyard plots, seeking to let
these distinct, singular terroirs
speak through their wines.
Effortlessly elegant, their wines are
always fresh and alive with silky
textures and electric energy. We’re
thrilled that their newest releases
have now made their way to our shores
– these include their highly
sought-after Trousseau, their
emblematic Sonoma Coast Syrah, and an
addictively fresh and minerally rosé
that’ll keep you reaching for the next
sip. Given their limited production,
intensifying acclaim, and
ever-escalating demand, we feel
incredibly privileged each time we
receive an allocation from these
icons.
On the debut front,
we’re delighted to welcome Domaine
de Vaccelli to our portfolio. One
of the reference-point producers in
Corsica along with Clos Canarelli,
Vaccelli is at the vanguard of the
island’s viticultural re-awakening. Like
his compatriot Yves Canarelli, vigneron
Gérard Courrèges (pictured right)
is convinced that native grape varieties
hold the key to showcasing his unique
local terroirs. To Gérard, there are no
finer messengers for the granitic
hillsides of his home than the
indigenous varieties Vermentinu and
Sciaccarellu. He’s taken his commitment
to terroir expression further by
separating his vineyard parcels in line
with their unique features – not unlike
the Burgundian way – and converting his
estate to organic farming. Granite soils
can bring out a greater degree of
elegance and salinity in wines, and this
is evident across the domaine’s
collection.
Meanwhile, the southern
hemisphere is represented this month
by one of our friends and favourite
vignerons, Yoshiaki Sato (pictured
right), who has been making some
exceptionally fine wines from his base
in New Zealand’s Central Otago region.
The exuberant, expressive 2017 Pinots
were a smash hit, so we’re pleased to
announce that we’ve picked up a
refresh – if you missed out the first
time around, here’s your chance to
give them a go. The cherry on top?
We’ve also got the latest releases of
his textural straight Pinot Gris and
its always intriguing skin-contact
cousin cuvée, L’atypique.
And, in case you were wondering, our
Burgundy 2019 campaign is far from being
over — keep your eyes peeled as we’ve
got more of the magnificent 2019s to
come. (We’ll also have some special
offers popping up from time to time. As
always, since you’re on our mailing
list, you’ll be the first to know!)
Have fun perusing our wine list and
drop us an email at sales@artisan-cellars.com
should you wish to inquire further or
to place an order.
Drink well, stay safe, and don’t
forget to stock up!

Jean Tardy

Two autumns ago, we visited Guillaume
Tardy at his Vosne-Romanée cellar to
taste his extraordinary Domaine Jean
Tardy 2018s. It was a truly memorable
experience, for these wines are
beautifully complete; exquisite in their
composure, symmetry and details. The
terroir articulation is impeccable and
intense, yet is expressed in a calm,
elegant, almost zen fashion. These
terrific 2018s are now here, and all the
promise we saw in barrel has made it
into the bottle, and then some. These
are expressive, finessed Côte de Nuits
reds of excellent purity and depth. You
won’t want to miss them.
