Sébastien
Cathiard has supercharged Domaine Sylvain Cathiard &
Fils to unimaginable heights. Those
fortunate enough to have tasted his wines will
concur that this is no exaggeration. Testament to
this young vigneron’s Midas touch are a bull run of
vintages since his debut in 2011, each finer than
the last, all coveted by a market whose desire for
the domaine’s wines continues unabated.
|
The quality associated with the Domaine Cathiard label
comes from an unwavering dedication to the fundamentals.
Since Sébastien took over, the viticulture has become more
organic-centric, though the domaine eschews seeking
certification. Vinification seems unchanged at a glance,
but over the years Sébastien has lowered the use of new
oak and adjusted to a lower toast to preserve greater
purity of fruit. All of these changes have been minor and
gradual but the superior results in the hands of this
sensitive young vigneron are perceptible.
Those who have tasted the fruits of Sébastien’s labour
will agree that the exquisite Cathiard experience extends
to every wine in the Domaine’s lineup. As such, choosing
which to collect from such a fine portfolio becomes a
matter of personal predisposition. With Domaine Cathiard’s
wines, we’re entering a realm where one is no longer
measuring excellence, but indulging in the rarefied art of
vinous seduction. These are non-stop thrill-a-second
wines.
Sébastien Cathiard is indeed a vigneron in a class of
his own. Whether his wines are drawing accolades from
various wine writers or causing Burgundy lovers the world
over to swoon, it’s undeniable that this is a superstar
Vosne-Romanée cellar to follow.
![open-quote](https://www.artisan-cellars.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/open_quote_grey.png) |
These are
gloriously silky smooth, complex wines; not just
with the top Premier Crus but down to the generic
Burgundy. It’s the intensity and focus that set
Cathiard apart, wines with supreme definition and
purity that seduce the palate like a beautiful
courtesan.
— Neil Martin
Some nice new wines in the range chez
Sébastien – but on this visit the usual suspects
were in imperious form!
— Bill Nanson

We are thrilled to offer to you today
on an allocation basis the incredible vintage 2019
from Domaine Sylvain Cathiard & Fils.
|
In this latest collection, the Domaine has expanded its
portfolio to include two newly acquired vineyards from the
Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, plus a village Gevrey-Chambertin
and a white wine, Bourgogne Aligoté. Sébastien has
been hard at work acquiring these appellations over the
past few years: “I want more people to have access to our
wines,” he explains.
The Cathiard allure that has captivated the domaine’s
fans is on full display here, across the entire
collection. As the tasting notes suggest, the new cuvées
have immediately assumed the elegance and special touch
that Sébastien brings to his wines. These new additions
will no doubt help to extend the Cathiard experience to a
wider — and ever appreciative — audience.
As supply is almost never adequate to satisfy demand,
balanced requests will be favoured. Please state the
quantities of the wines you desire by replying to us by Thursday
18 March 2021. We will notify successful respondents
of the final allocation no more than four working days
after this date, after which the final acceptance of
allocation will have to be paid in full in accordance with
the stated deadline.
Please read the Allocation
Process as well as Terms
and Conditions sections below carefully, or
inquire with us by email or phone should you need further
clarifications.
Consolidation from the domaine is expected at the end of
the year and ex-Singapore availability is expected to be
in Q1 of 2022, subject to shipper’s final notice.

Allocation
Process
|
|
This
offer follows an allocation process which differs
from the usual first-come-first-served ordering
process. So, how should you order?
All of the Domaine’s wines are allocated. We suggest
that you simply order what you would ideally like to
receive. We strongly prefer orders in a balanced
proportion across several wines.
The quantities we receive vary from wine to wine and
they are often quite restrictive. This vintage is no
exception. Limitations of supply notwithstanding, we
endeavour to distribute the wines as fairly as
possible. However, priority will be given to the
Domaine’s and Artisan Cellars’ most supportive
clients.
We will consolidate all order requests within the
week so may we please have your order by Thursday
18 March 2021. To place your order
request, simply reply to this offer with an email
addressed to sales@artisan-cellars.com.
Final allocations will be completed and emailed to
you by no later than Wednesday 24 March 2021 with an
attached invoice.
May we please further request that invoices are
paid in full by 8 April 2021.
Do understand that we reserve the right to exercise
our rights to re-allocate your order to other
customers on the waiting list if payment is not
received by this date. |

Côteaux
Bourguignons “Les Croix Blanches” 2019
|
S$ 65 + GST / 750 ML
|
From "Les Croix
Blanches" lieu-dit located at the
southern side of Vosne-Romanée,
comprising a parcel of interplanted
vines in a proportion of 60% gamay
and 40% pinot noir.
|
“A very pretty and fresh nose freely offers
up notes of essence of red berries along
with mild earth nuances that are picked up
by the nicely vibrant flavors that are
delicious, forward and only mildly rustic.
To enjoy young.” Allen
Meadows

|
Bourgogne
2019
|
S$ 85 + GST / 750 ML
|
From a parcel of
vines that are in Flagey opposite
Clos de Vougeot. No new oak.
|
“Less broad but a finer, almost perfumed,
nose. Extra energy here, more things to
find, more purity of flavour too. More
length of finish – really long. A super
Bourgogne.” Bill
Nanson
|
|
|
|
|
Hautes-Côtes de Nuits “Aux Chaumes” 2019
|
S$ 89 + GST / 750 ML for
3-bottles or more
S$ 95 + GST / 750 ML
S$ 228 + GST / 1,500 ml – MAGNUM
|
“A wonderfully fresh and bright nose speak
of red currant, cherry and a subtle
application of wood. The sleek, intense
and agreeably textured flavors exude a
refreshing salinity on the focused, linear
and slightly raspy finish that offers a
bit more overall depth. Worth checking
out.” Allen
Meadows
“That’s lovely; a sweetness of fruit but
open and attractive too. Nicely open,
slightly structural, faintly (20%) oaked.
Very long, in waves of delicious flavour.
The last drops in the glass are just
super.” Bill
Nanson

|
Hautes-Côtes de Nuits “Les Dames Huguette”
2019 |
S$ 92 + GST / 750 ML for
3-bottles or more
S$ 98 + GST / 750 ML
S$ 240 + GST / 1,500 ml – MAGNUM
|
“This too is exuberantly fresh though it's
also more deeply pitched with its array of
dark currant, plum and soft earth wisps. The
energetic and well-detailed flavors possess
plenty of salinity on the lingering and
better-balanced finale. This is excellent
for its level.” Allen
Meadows
|
|
|
|
|
Nuits-Saint-Georges
2019
|
S$ 150 + GST / 750 ML
|
From <70-year-old
vines in Aux Athées. |
“Yes – beautiful purity of fruit here…
Direction, drive, a cooler fruit but
seemingly with extra mid-palate
concentration too. There’s extra in the
finish … a great villages.” Bill Nanson |
|
|
|
|
Gevrey-Chambertin 2019
|
S$ 150 + GST / 750 ML
|
“A distinctly earthy red and dark berry
fruit nose shyly reveals hints of game and
underbrush. There is both good volume and
vibrancy to the detailed flavors that are
supported by unusually fine-grained tannins
considering where the vineyard is located as
there is only a touch of rusticity on the
sneaky long finale.” Allen Meadows
“A burst of extra aroma here – very
forward and a little floral. A structural
wine – quite architectural – always
mouth-watering, wide, a faint grain to the
tannin. Long again and mineral too…
Delicious!” Bill
Nanson

|
|
Vosne-Romanée
2019
|
S$ 180 + GST / 750 ML
S$ 480 + GST / 1,500 ml – MAGNUM
|
From different
lieux-dits that include Pré de la
Folie, Champs Goudins, Les Ormes and
Les Chalandins, which is from the
Vosne side; 50% new wood. |
“An overtly spicy and agreeably fresh nose
speaks mainly of red and blue pinot fruit,
exotic tea and a pretty floral whiff. The
racy and beautifully delineated
middle-weight flavors possess a sleek
mouthfeel that carries over to the
tension-filled and chiseled finish. This is
a very good Vosne villages that should amply
repay mid-term cellaring.” Allen Meadows
|
|
|
|
|
Chambolle-Musigny
“Les Clos de l’Orme” 2019
|
S$ 195 + GST / 750 ML
|
“Here an ultra-fresh array is comprised by
notes of plum, violet and discreet spice
nuances that are trimmed in a dollop of
wood. The delicious middle-weight flavors
are not as rich but they are noticeably more
mineral-driven while offering just a bit
more overall depth and persistence on the
precise and slightly youthfully austere
finish. This lovely effort is very
Chambollesque.” Allen
Meadows |
|
|
|
|
Nuits-Saint-Georges
1er Cru “Aux Thorey” 2019
|
S$ 295 + GST / 750 ML
|
From a 0.43 ha parcel
of vines planted in 1953. |
“A whiff of herbal tea sits atop a mélange
of spicy and very pretty red cherry,
currant, violet and lavender. The rich and
relatively generously proportioned flavors
possess solid concentration as well as a
refined texture, all wrapped in an intensely
saline-inflected finale that exhibits fine
length… this is really quite fine, indeed
even finer than usual.” Allen Meadows
|
|
|
|
|
Nuits-Saint-Georges
1er Cru “Aux Murgers” 2019
|
S$ 330 + GST / 750 ML
|
From a 0.47 ha parcel
of 65+ year old vines
|
“A much more deeply pitched nose offers up
notes of plum, black currant, newly turned
earth and a whiff of oak. The succulent and
opulently rich large-scaled flavors possess
imposing power along with plenty of muscle
on the balanced and wonderfully persistent
finale. This is excellent and very Murgers
in character; in fact the word textbook
comes to mind.” Allen
Meadows
“A faint touch of reduction but at the
same time beautifully floral. More
together, a little more open and
mouthwatering, more perfumed too than the
Thorey. Extra elegance and a simply
excellent wine that has a lovely saline
line of finishing flavour…” Bill Nanson
|
|
|
|
|
Vosne-Romanée
1er Cru “En Orveaux” 2019
|
S$ 520 + GST / 750 ML
|
From a 0.30 ha parcel
of 70-year-old vines. Yield is 30%
less than in 2018.
|
“This is one of the few wines that was
significantly reduced and it's enough to
push the underlying fruit to the background.
Otherwise the super-sleek, intense and
highly energetic flavors possess both very
fine detail and plenty of minerality before
concluding in a moderately austere, classy
and sneaky long finale. Lovely juice built
to reward mid to perhaps even longer-term
cellaring.” Allen
Meadows |
|
|
|
|
Vosne-Romanée
1er Cru “Aux Reignots” 2019
|
S$ 590 + GST / 750 ML
|
From a 0.25 ha parcel
of 20+ year old vines planted in a
mix of rock and sand.
|
“Subtle but not imperceptible wood sets off
exceptionally fresh and exuberantly spicy
aromas of plum, black raspberry and a
plethora of floral nuances. The sleek,
intense and almost as rich middle weight
flavors exude a lovely minerality on the
dusty, balanced and solidly long finish.”
Allen Meadows
“This nose has a higher tone, slowly
relaxing and adding florals too. Ooh,
that’s good over the palate; melting,
layered, a certain elegant and airy style
but the finish is no pushover. Ethereal,
excellent wine.” Bill
Nanson
|
|
|
|
|
Vosne-Romanée
1er Cru “Les Suchots” 2019
|
S$ 650 + GST / 750 ML
|
“A wonderfully spicy nose combines notes of
sandalwood, hoisin and crushed fennel with
those of violet, plum liqueur and an
admirably subtle hint of wood. The rich,
caressing and enveloping flavors are also
quite generously proportioned while coating
the palate with sappy dry extract, all
wrapped in a lingering finish that really
fans out as it sits on the palate. This
highly seductive effort needs to develop
more depth, but the underlying material
appears to be present for that to occur with
12 to 15 years of bottle aging.” Allen Meadows
|
|
|
|
|
Vosne-Romanée
1er Cru “Aux Malconsorts” 2019
|
S$ 950 + GST / 750 ML
S$ 2,500 + GST / 1,500 ml – MAGNUM
|
From a 0.74 ha parcel
planted in 1972 and 1973.
|
“This is directly the most open nose, the
most floral and shows the finest clarity of
red fruit. Silkier, but direct. More mineral
and structural – a wine that has all the
best bits of the others. Wide, wide, wide,
finishing. The tannin present but
micro-grained. Great Vosne.” Bill Nanson
|
|
|
|
|
Romanée-Saint-Vivant
Grand Cru 2019
|
S$ 2,800 + GST / 750 ML
|
From a tiny 0.18 ha
parcel. Less than 800 bottles
produced.
|
“A gorgeous and kaleidoscopically
broad-ranging nose is classic Vosne with its
purple fruit complemented by a striking
array of spices that include star anise,
clove, cinnamon, exotic tea and sandalwood.
The elegant, cool and lacy middle weight
flavors are precise and aristocratic on the
beautifully balanced finish that is
impressively persistent. Built-to-age class
in a glass.” Allen
Meadows |
