Michael Cruse,
one of the state’s emerging
masters of sparkling wine.
— Jon
Bonné
Against a landscape that often
feels dominated by either
top-shelf Cabernet or acidic
European emulations, the Cruse
wines aim to reimagine what “table
wine” can be: fruity, quaffable,
affordable. And more than
anything, they’re intensely loyal
to their California origins.
— Esther
Mobley, San Francisco
Chronicle
California is making some serious
Pinot Noir these days, and Hirsch
is one of the stars.
— Jamie
Goode
. . the Hirsch family’s
Sonoma Coast estate is undoubtedly
one of the great vineyard sites in
the United States.
— Antonio
Galloni
. . Pinot flavour at its most
electrically alive—higher-voltage
on the landward east slope,
perhaps; and more instantly
alluring, more feminine, where it
sees the sea.
— Hugh
Johnson, on Hirsch Vineyards

The new lunar year has begun! And
we are so stoked that not one but two
Californian wine icons are swinging into town for
a whirlwind pit stop come this 18th of February. |
Michael Cruse of Cruse Wine Co. has become a bona
fide California wine rock star but you’d never know it if
you meet him in person. Extreme vino-geekery tendencies
aside, Michael is but a regular hang-out-and-have-fun guy:
totally chilled out, but amazingly skilled at what he
does. Ever since crowned The Chronicle’s Winemaker Of
The Year in 2016, he hasn’t stopped bottling vinous
pleasures and has never stopped getting better. A de facto
maestro of Californian sparkling wines, Cruse also blows
people’s minds with his ultra-delectable and seductive
reds. Tonight we’ll get to taste his acclaimed sparkling
wines, including the Pét-Nat/traditional method hybrid
Valdiguié sparkling, and his latest 2017 Chardonnay,
Valdiguié and Tannat. The critics have heralded the
excellence of 2017 vintage. Be among the first to
experience it.
We are thrilled that Jasmine Hirsch is joining the
party too. The recent years have seen Hirsch Vineyards
gain elevated prominence among diehard pinotphiles and
Burgundy cognoscenti. The Hirsch name is a legend of
Californian pinot noir. You might have seen it on the
celebrated labels of Littorai, Williams Selyem
and Kistler, but what has increasingly captured
the imagination of the serious fine wine collectors is
Hirsch’s own estate pinot noir bottlings from this extreme
end of the Sonoma Coast. Its vintage 2016 collection looks
set to continue an upward trajectory of finesse as we
shall see tonight and while we’re at it, we will also
taste the 2011s, sourced directly from the estate, for
added perspective.
We’re making this an all-American affair, but with a local
twist. For this special gathering, we are pleased to
collaborate with a restaurant that matches the two
wineries’ ethos in food — unpretentious, delicious,
thoughtfully executed — Morsels. Chef Petrina Loh
has a special affinity for California, having spent her
formative years working in some of the top kitchens in San
Francisco. Chef Loh loves Californian wines and has been
an avid fan of Cruse and Hirsch wines. Expect exciting
pairings as she makes this dinner her personal
passion-project with a unique menu just for the night.
We hope you will RSVP soon. We look forward to your
company on this very special wine dinner party.
Yours,
Henry H.

RESTAURANT PARTNER
|
Morsels occupies a cozy rustic
barnyard-style space in the lush Dempsey Hill
area. A former banker, Chef-Owner Petrina
Loh has come a long way after leaving
her private banking job of 8 years to fully
pursue her passion and love for food and wine.
At Morsels, Chef Petrina fuses her kitchen
experience in San Francisco Bay area
Michelin-starred restaurants with her
inspirations to dish up wildly creative,
ingredient-driven dishes that pay homage to
food memories from her childhood. All of the
dishes are designed with a washoku
mindset strongly influenced by Japanese
cuisine. It is simple yet complex, marrying
sweet, sour, salty, and bitter tastes, and
full of umami. The result: dishes with unusual
ingredient combinations that produce
unexpectedly well-matched flavours. Chef
Petrina is a firm believer that you are what
you eat, and constantly strives to create food
that not only excites your palate but also
nourishes you at the same time. Morsels bagged
the World Gourmet Summit’s Restaurant of The
Year award in 2017 while Chef Petrina Loh won
the Chef’s Choice (Western) award.
